Lead-Free Wave and Selective Soldering”: 12.02.-13.02.2020

Wertheim, 04.09.2019
Following the great success of the know-how seminars on all aspects of professional soldering, system supplier Ersa is now offering its popular events internationally in English. As head of application technology at Ersa GmbH, Jürgen Friedrich was able to welcome for the first time to the “International Know-How Seminar – Lead-Free Wave and Selective Soldering” on September 3rd and 4th. A total of 21 participants from Estonia, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, Hungary and Slovakia travelled to Wertheim to expand their know-how on lead-free wave and selective soldering with theoretical and practical knowledge.

In the first theoretical part, Jürgen Friedrich listed the numerous influencing factors that determine the quality and thus reliability of electronic assemblies – starting with the printed circuit board and its design via material selection and components used to the limits of the soldering process, which are defined by the PCB, components and flux. Not to forget the machine operator who programs and operates the soldering system. “All these factors – including optimum climatic conditions for stable processes – must be seen in connection with an overall increasing workload on the part of electronics manufacturers. This makes it all the more important that employees are always up to date with the latest technology in order to keep the increasingly complex soldering systems running,” said soldering expert Jürgen Friedrich.

The following practical part in the afternoon took place in two groups in the adjacent application and demo center, where the participants, under the guidance of Ersa experts, got up close and personal with concrete application examples in wave soldering and selective soldering. After every 90 minutes, there was a change so that all participants could follow both soldering processes intensively at close range. In the evening, the participants climbed up to Wertheim Castle, where they had dinner together. The same procedure on the second day: start with another theoretical unit and relevant process parameters, process monitoring and examples of how soldering defects can best be avoided, followed by hands-on practice parts and concluding discussion. At the end of the two seminar days, the 21 participants travelled home well prepared to further optimize their own wave and/or selective soldering production with the know-how they had just acquired.
