Inert Gas Soldering
Inert gas- or cover gas soldering is the term for soldering in a protective atmosphere. This inerted atmosphere prevent the oxidization of the parts to be joined and the liquid solder in the bath. Since the oxide layers will not grow further during the process, already existing oxide layers can be removed with a minimum of flux. Wettability is improved. All inert gases could be used to inert the system, nitrogen as well as other noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon). For the soldering process, nitrogen is commonly used.
