SMT Surface Mount Technology
Since the 80th, surface mount assembly of components prevails more and more as the method of choice in assembling electronic assemblies, and it is today the standard of technology. It is a logical next step in superseding THT (through-hole technology). Surface mount components have no leads or pins, which means that the time-consuming and costly process step of drilling the through holes of printed circuit boards for the leads of components is eliminated. SMD’s are placed directly in solder paste printed onto the board, after which they are reflowed.
